Tanya D'Angelo, APCC
Tanya D’Angelo is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC). She graduated from SDSU with a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. She completed her undergraduate degree in Workforce Education & Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Tanya has experience working with individuals and groups while they are working through challenges related to confidence, motivation, life transitions, social and relational problems, adjusting to disabilities/differences, and career changes. She draws on Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while emphasizing a strengths-based, collaborative approach. Tanya values each individual’s lived experience and enjoys partnering with people as they progress toward their wellness goals. Her background emphasizes vocational rehabilitation as a form of recovery and she has several years’ experience supporting Veterans as well as job seekers. She began her clinical work as a trainee with San Diego Community College District where she supported students working toward wellness plans while they attended college. She also worked with individuals and family members in the Acquired Brain Injury Program at CE Mesa and worked with individuals with disabilities and groups at the Department of Rehabilitation. After completing her Master of Science Degree, Tanya worked for Sharp HealthCare and partnered with employees as they were in transition due to a newly acquired disability/difference. She also provided mental health counseling to individuals of all ages and from diverse backgrounds at MiraCosta College, including clients dealing with depression, anxiety, chronic illness, grief, life stressors, family and relational conflicts, imposter syndrome, and stress related to time management/executive functioning challenges. Tanya also has experience working with people with ADHD, Autism, and other neurodifferences, and she is a Certified Autism Informed Professional. She has enjoyed partnering with people as they navigated uncertainty, developed important life skills, and gained greater confidence, stress management, social skills, and stability in their lives. Outside of her work context, Tanya enjoys playing sports with her husband and two kids, listening to a good book or podcast, playing with her dog, or having coffee with friends. She recently completed a six month+ certificate program in Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion and she enjoys practicing compassion in her everyday life. At this time, Tanya D'Angelo, APCC works under the direct supervision of Dr. Sarah Ray, Clinical Psychologist, and Dr. Bindhu Davis, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as she gains hours toward licensure.
