Dr. Sarah Ray is a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Advanced Health Care. She graduated from the University of Michigan Honors Program with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. At the University of Michigan, Dr. Ray facilitated Alcohol Management Workshops for students recognized as problem drinkers, as well as served as a mentor for adolescent girls diagnosed with mental illness and pervasive developmental disorders. She was the program assistant for a therapeutic summer day camp for homeless children, and she also worked as an activities therapist at the University of Michigan Mott's Children's Hospital. In addition, she served as an assistant head counselor and researcher at a residential summer camp for special needs children, Ramapo for Children, in Rhinebeck, New York.
Dr. Ray was awarded a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. During this time, she worked at the Areta Crowell Center, an outpatient community mental health clinic serving adults with severe mental health disorders. At Areta Crowell, she provided short and long-term psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and psychological assessments. At Springall Academy, a public school in San Diego for special needs children, Dr. Ray provided individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and crisis intervention to children and adolescents diagnosed with mood disorders, learning disabilities, behavior problems, and autism. She also worked at Aurora Behavioral Healthcare, a private psychiatric hospital serving children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics with a wide range of acute mental health disorders and addictions. At Aurora, Dr. Ray provided short-term inpatient psychotherapy, long-term outpatient psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, as well as performed psychological evaluations. She also served as a psychosocial rehabilitation specialist at Vista Balboa Crisis House. During her training, Dr. Ray was a psychological assistant under Dr. Steven Hirsch. She worked in a private practice serving children, adolescents, and adults. She provided short and long term outpatient psychotherapy and assisted with Workmen’s Compensation evaluations. In 2008, Dr. Ray became the owner and primary clinician at Advanced Health Care. She has continued to specialize in providing individual short and long term psychotherapy with adults and adolescents suffering with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, grief, change of life transitions, relationship problems, women issues, poor self-esteem, and stress. She also specializes in conducting Workmen’s Compensation and Fitness for Duty evaluations, as well as Expert Witness services for chronic pain, depression, women's health, and trauma in Personal Injury and Workers' Compensation litigation. Dr. Ray is a Qualified Medical Evaluator and has served as an Agreed Medical Evaluator in the state of California. Lastly, Dr. Ray is married with two young daughters and she takes great interest in women's health during this life phase, including Maternal Mental Health Disorders and the unique experience of working mothers.
