Madalyn Osterkamp, MA, AMFT
Madalyn Osterkamp is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Advanced Health Care. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Counseling and Social Change from San Diego State University. She then went on to earn her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Madalyn began her clinical work at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital in the Eating Disorders program. In this setting, she provided individual, group, and family therapy to individuals struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and body image issues. While working in a hospital setting, she developed a passion for treating clients from a biopsychosocial perspective, which incorporated both the mind and the body into the treatment process. Madalyn has several years of experience working in residential and academic settings with children and adolescents that have mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. She enjoys working with both children and adults to address issues such as anxiety, grief, attachment wounds, and life transitions. Most recently, Madalyn has worked in an intensive outpatient Maternal Mental Health program, where she provided individual and group therapy to women experiencing Perinatal and Postpartum difficulties. She has been grateful to support women and their newborns as they navigate this exciting yet challenging life transition. Madalyn is a warm and empathetic therapist who understands the value of providing a safe, compassionate atmosphere that allows clients to learn and understand themselves in a non-judgmental, curious way. She works with her clients to effectively change thinking patterns, explore core beliefs that make a person unique, and develop insight into past childhood and relational experiences that continue to influence them today. Madalyn is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. She builds on these theories and enjoys incorporating Attachment Theory and evidence-based neuroscience research and interventions. She applies these techniques to gain a better understanding of how the brain, mind, and interpersonal interactions shape each client in their own distinct way. Madalyn has also received clinical training and certification in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. In addition to her clinical work, Madalyn is committed to expanding her knowledge of mental health for her clients and believes strongly in the value of lifelong learning and growth, both personally and professionally. At this time, Madalyn Osterkamp, AMFT works under the direct supervision of Dr. Sarah Ray, Clinical Psychologist, and Dr. Bindhu Davis, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as she gains hours toward licensure. |
