Bindhu Davis, Psy.D., LMFT
Lead Clinician & Clinical Supervisor
Dr. Bindhu Davis is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. Dr. Davis received both her Masters and Doctorate of Psychology degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. Her undergraduate studies were done at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a B.A in Psychology and a B.A in Anthropology.
Dr. Davis began her clinical work in 2003 when she interned at San Diego Hospice. While there, she provided bereavement counseling services to individuals, families, and groups. She gained invaluable training in the areas of grief and loss. She later returned to this site as a bereavement counselor, community educator, and mentor for interns in their Masters’ programs. At this time, she also ran multiple therapeutic groups including parent loss, child loss, spouse loss, sudden death, and multi-level family grief groups. She also contracted with the Medical Examiner’s office and had multiple clients on her caseload suffering from traumatic loss due to murder, suicide, and sudden accidental death. The extensive training in grief counseling helped lay a strong foundation for her role as a therapist since loss accompanies most of the issues brought to therapy. Dr. Davis also managed a residential treatment facility for teen girls with severe emotional disturbances. Many of these clients had a long history of broken relationships, abuse, and neglect, and Dr. Davis helped them work through attachment injuries, build self-esteem, and create goals for their futures. Dr. Davis has also worked extensively with families, treating children through adolescents struggling with lack of self-confidence, difficulties in school, social anxiety, and depression. Dr. Davis believes in treating the whole family to create long lasting changes. Dr. Davis has been working in the field of Worker’s Compensation since 2012. In 2017, she joined the team at Advanced Health Care as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and her experience in the areas of grief and loss prepared her well to serve clients affected by work injuries, including emotional trauma and bodily injuries. She is also trained in the areas of Biofeedback and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, both of which have been proven effective for adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. In addition to clients affected by work injuries, at Advanced Health Care Dr. Davis is also dedicated to treating couples struggling in their relationships, mothers in all phases of child rearing, young adults trying to find their place in this world, and first generation individuals navigating life in the middle of two cultures. Dr. Davis strives to empower her clients to use their inherent strengths to overcome the obstacles that they are faced with. Dr. Davis is a collaborative therapist who listens to her clients and helps them reach the goals they set for themselves. She uses cognitive behavioral and solution-focused approaches, while also recognizing the importance of the therapeutic relationship in creating a safe and positive environment so clients can feel confident in making the changes needed to create the life they want. |
